Iron Body Outdoor Training

5/26/2010

Beginning this Saturday, I will begin holding an outdoor strength and conditioning class.  It will feature some of the most effective fat loss and performance tools in existence, including prowler pushing, sled dragging, kettlebell exercises and medicine ball exercises.  You can find more info on the prowler and the sled in previous blogposts.  Class will be done circuit style with different stations and partners at each station.

You will build muscle and strength and get a great cardiovascular workout simultaneously.  This means more fat loss, better performance and a better and leaner body.  Get ready to sweat, work hard and have fun.  Quit wasting your time on the elliptical and treadmill and come train effectively!

Class will be held at 6701 82nd Street at Gangler Park in Kenosha on Saturdays at 11:00 and outside Southridge Athletic Club on Wednesdays at 4:30 (as of now).  Times are subject to change and new times may be added as time goes on.  If you are interested, please call or email and let me know so I can get you the paperwork as well as reserve your spot.  Spots will go fast so reserve yours now! Price will be $12 a person by the class or $100 total if you sign up for 10 classes in advance. You will not find a better workout than this anywhere around the area so don't miss out and call or email me now.

I will also offer complementary assessments to any participant who is interested in getting their own individualized program.

Miscellaneous Updates

I haven't had a ton of time to post lately as I've been extremely busy with training.  A couple of things.
Just want to let you know about Ryan Geil, a high school baseball player for Franklin.  Ryan has been working with me for around 10 months and has come a long way with a great offseason of intense training.
A few stats:  Pitching speed last year: 74 mph
Pitching speed this year: 80 mph
Home Runs all last year: 2
Home Runs through first few weeks this year: 5

That is some good improvement.  How did this happen? Well, for starters, we fixed imbalances in his hips and shoulders and worked on his movement patterns.  Then, throughout the year we built up his max strength, power, speed, muscle, etc.  all the while prehabbing important areas like his shoulders and hips all offseason.
A few training stats:  Max Squat starting: 250
                               Max Squat now: 315
                               Max Bench starting: 150
                               Max Bench now: 215
(Not a ton of full range pressing was done in training as we want to keep too much extra stress off of a pitcher's shoulders)
                               Vertical jump starting: 21"
                               Vertical jump now: 26"
He has gotten stronger, more explosive, faster and has gotten much better with his awareness, balance and agility among other things, not to mention he has put on at least 15-20 lbs.
Look for him to have a big season this summer; you just might be hearing about him in the paper.

Blog posts to check out
Mike Robertson recently posted a good blog on movement quality so be sure to check it out here

Nia Shanks had a great blog post disecting the ridiculousness of the shake weight a little while back that can be seen here

Tony Gentilcore explains once again why Tracy Anderson is a complete unqualified hack with her new misleading babyfood diet here and also breaks down the misleading claims of sketchers shapeups here

I should have some new training vids uploaded soon as I might actually have some extra time this week to get some little things done. Don't forget, my outdoor strength and conditioning class will be starting soon. If you are in the kenosha or south milwaukee area, don't miss out.

This is How We Train!!

Circuits are a great way to finish up workouts or a great tool for extra workouts.  Cardiovascular training combined with strength training; it doesn't get any better.  Get some music going and train.  Check out Penny straight killing the end of her workout.  Who said nurses don't train hard?!!
Wanna get in shape? Gotta work for it people! Too many people make excuses and constantly try to find an easy way out.  Guess what.  If you want a great body and want to be in great shape, you have to put some work in.  You can try the latest gimics or the newest diet all you want, but the fact of the matter is these ridiculous wastes of money will never help you.  So regardless of what the dumbbell shaker's genius creators or the sketcher shapeup's brilliant creators told you, quit wasting your time and money on that kind of crap and start training with proven and effective methods. (Just to be sure we're on the same page, the genius and the brilliant were completely sarcastic :) )

Its nothing new and nothing secret.  Strength train and train your different energy systems with a properly designed program, eat the right foods frequently, be consistent and work hard.   Also, do yourself a huge favor and let an expert help you. (No, the makers of the dumbbell shaker or anybody associated with it in anyway are very very far from being experts.  And if you have a trainer who makes you do anything as ridiculous as a dumbbell shaker, run away and run fast.)

Prowler Season!

I just received my prowler from elitefts yesterday and I am very very excited to put it to use.  The prowler is one of the best, if not the best, strength and conditioning tools out there and is a great way to not only build muscle and strength, but to train multiple energy systems and get an amazing cardiovascular workout.  Whether you are an athlete that needs to work on conditioning or someone who wants to get rid of fat fast, you can't go wrong with a prowler workout.  Along with the sled, it is one of my favorite strength and conditioning tools.  Check out Debra giving it a shot.
To anybody who is interested,  I am going to begin holding outdoor strength and conditioning classes in both Kenosha and Milwaukee very soon.  It will be awesome for a wide variety of people from athletes to fat loss.  It will include sled dragging, prowler pushing, kettlebell exercises, med ball exercises and more.  You will build muscle, lose fat, get stronger and get a great cardio workout at the same time. Get that body ready to show off all summer.  Let me know if you are interested.  I'll provide more details soon.  Enjoy this great weather!
